Connecticut’s Only Board-Certified
Upper Cervical Chiropractic Specialist
I’m Dr. William Lordan
I’m honored to be the only Diplomate in Chiropractic Craniocervical Junction Procedures (DCCJP) — a board-certified upper cervical specialist — serving patients throughout New England and the Tri-State area, and, even from as far away as Egypt!
We provide old fashioned caring with a modern approach to treatment.
What makes Upper Cervical different from regular chiropractic?
Upper cervical chiropractic care is a unique and gentle approach that focuses on the most important connection in your body — the relationship between your head and neck. This area is small, but incredibly important. It’s the electrical, mechanical, and fluid (CSF and vascular) interface between your brain and the rest of your body. When it’s out of alignment, it can create obstacles that keep your body from functioning and healing the way it’s supposed to.
How do I know if you can help me?
Everything is caused by something. If you’ve tried other therapies and providers and haven’t had results, we might be the answer. Common symptoms we help with are: headaches, migraine, dizziness, post concussion syndrome, brain fog, visual disturbances. We also have some MS patients that get relief. And of course, neck pain and injuries.
Yes, we still provide “normal chiropractic” treatment, but that looks a bit different, too. Twisting, cracking and popping isn’t really how we go about this. In this realm we also take a more conservative approach. Measuring, analyzing and assessing for best and quickest outcomes. Here we will use a variety of adjustments and procedures. We have specialized tables and instruments that will help us measure and treat your body according to its exact needs at that very moment.
How long does it take?
New Patient Consultations are 30 minutes. We get to know you and the road you have traveled, and you get to know us and the treatment options we provide.
First exams are 60 minutes – We are very thorough.
First corrections take about an hour. We will explain what we have found, re-do some of the exam findings and then make the first correction. Rest Area – After an Upper Cervical adjustment you will rest in a special room for 20-30 minutes to let your body relax and to let the alignment set-in better.
Follow up visits – We’ll see you twice a week for 3-4 weeks and then once a week for 3-4 weeks. These appointments are 15-30 minutes. Obviously this will vary case to case.
Periodically we will do re-evaluations (re-exams) to measure progress. This will be every 4-8 weeks.
At the end of approx 8 weeks, we’ll know how stable you are and what your needs will be for the future .
Does it hurt? Is it safe?
I’ve had one person complain in 24 years that said it “pinched”. So no, it doesn’t hurt – we use 1-6 lbs of pressure max to make a correction. How much is that in real life? For perspective, your head weighs 11 lbs.
The safety studies on upper cervical care are impeccable (we can send them to you if you want more info). You may feel a little muscle soreness post appointment, but it generally resolves shortly after – anywhere from minutes to a day.
What does it cost?
Out of pocket cost
A new patient exam, including x-rays, is $550-875
Follow up visits are $70-120
Re-exams $150-250
Out of pocket cost without insurance for the first 8 weeks is typically about $1500-2100.
Insurance
We only accept Anthem Blue Cross and Medicare – they don’t cover everything, but they’ll cover a lot of it. Specific coverage will depend on your plan.
Cost depends on how complicated your case is and how much time it takes to get you improved and stabilized. We know everyone isn’t the same, so we don’t have a “standard” one-size-fits-all price. We might need to take more images, or run more tests, to ensure we understand your specific case.
